50 Years of Corvette Fun!

The last weekend in July saw a huge influx of American’s Sports cars from the Pacific Northwest and Canada invade the beautiful city of Spokane, Washington, for the 16th annual Glass on Grass event and to celebrate the Spokane Corvette Club’s 50th anniversary. This three-day event is held on the grassy lawn of Spokane’s River Front Park, where the cars are displayed in a non-judged event for all to see and enjoy. Friday night started out with a Meet and Greet at the local Chevrolet dealership, Camp Chevrolet, where approximately 60 cars showed up for a light snack and some good old Hot Wheels die-cast racing. Several of the past charter members of the Spokane Club were invited, and old  friendships were rekindled over the course of the evening. The venue for Saturday’s show  was spectacular. Set in the center of the city of Spokane, River Front Park was made famous as the main Expo ‘74 site.

The event garnered more than 150 cars, which were on display for the day, and afterwards, all participants were treated to a wonderful cruise through gorgeous farmland in the local area and a free BBQ at the home of the  vice president of the club. On Sunday morning, an autocross was set up for those interested, and for those who wanted something more relaxing, a cruise to a local casino for breakfast and a game of chance.

The club’s 50th anniversary celebrations were helped along by donations from some of the aftermarket Corvette companies and many giveaways. One of the highlights was the congratulatory plaque sent from the National Corvette Museum and presented to Club President Chuck Adams. The Spokane Corvette Club’s annual Glass on Grass event is held every year on the last weekend of July.
